Russell Zehnder is a Director and Cinematographer at Freestate Productions, which he founded 25 years ago on the belief that "anything is possible" when you have passion and the right attitude.

Growing up on Singapore's East Coast, Russell developed a deep connection to the sea. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Media Studies with a minor in Photography from Edith Cowan University in Perth, where he discovered his talent for visual storytelling.

After his early short films garnered awards and recognition, Russell established Freestate Productions.

"Freestate represents a free state of mind—one without walls or restrictions that allows for the realization of any idea."

Freestate has produced award-winning documentaries for Channel News Asia and other broadcast and corporate clients, taking Russell across the globe to collaborate with diverse cultures.

"Working with different teams to achieve a common goal is incredibly rewarding. Even when we don't speak the same language, we're all in the same boat."

Recently, Russell has returned to sailing, drawing inspiration from philosopher Gregory Bassham's "Freedom of the Seas: The Stoic Sailor," which speaks to understanding what we can control, influence, and what lies beyond our control.

"This philosophy resonates deeply with me—it reflects my approach to sailing, life, and storytelling itself."

Azman Mohamed

Azman Mohamed's path to colour grading began in 1996 while working as a Studio Assistant at a music production house. Delivering DAT tapes to post-production facilities, he discovered the art of colour grading and became captivated by the craft.

His early training in studio recording and audio engineering led to a parallel career as a recording artist and performer, appearing on television and stages locally and internationally. After years as a freelance audio engineer and musician, Azman transitioned to visual post-production as a Tape Operator. When his company established a colour grading suite, he immediately volunteered for training, earning promotion to Junior Colourist in 2006

During an era when colour grading knowledge was closely guarded, Azman immersed himself in forums, tutorials, and available resources. His art school background in colour theory and collaborations with cinematographers deepened his understanding of how lighting and colour shape mood and atmosphere.

As digital cinema evolved, Azman mastered the different emerging formats, expanding his expertise across different color grading platforms such as Scratch, Quantel Pablo, and DaVinci Resolve. With his many years of experience, he has since taught at NYU Tisch and NTU, and even served as a jury member for a youth film festival.

While working at Gravitate Pte Ltd, Azman won Best Colour Grading at Singapore's 2016 Apollo Awards in both short form and long form (HBO's "Halfworlds").

Over nearly two decades, he has collaborated with directors including Royston Tan, Eric Khoo, Boo Junfeng, Wee Lilin, Andrew Ee, Mattie Do, and Joko Anwar, alongside cinematographers such as Ical Tanjung, Keong Low, Russell Zehnder, Wade Muller, John Radel, Derrick Loo, Shyan Tan, Chuck Tham and many others.

His portfolio spans feature films, television commercials, and episodic programming. For Azman, colour grading isn't merely a profession, it's a lifelong passion and a dream job he continues to pursue with unwavering dedication.
